What is ADHD Coaching?

As an ADHD coach I work by phone with adults, business owners and professionals, all over the world to develop the skills and awareness they need to get their ADHD out of the waydrawing of a head with ADHD written in so they can be more productive, happier, and successful.

To truly understand the answer to the question “What is ADHD coachingyou need a longer answer.

Here you go…

I lost a client today, yet I’ve never been happier.

Will, my former client, is an ADHD success story.

He first hired me to untangle his ADHD world more than three years ago. (Yes, you read that right, three years – learning to get your ADHD under control so you can create a calm, successful life takes time and commitment.)

Today, during our last coaching call, Will was thrilled to be a vastly different man with a much rosier future than he was three years ago.

Three years ago Will was the black sheep of his department with missed deadlines and unpredictable job performance.

Today he’s a star team member who gets regular raises and bonuses.

Three years ago Will had little hope of finishing college. He couldn’t focus or keep track of assignments. His GPA was 2.0.

Today with a GPA of 3.89, there is no question he’ll graduate even though he works full time.

Three years ago Will didn’t feel responsible enough to own a home.

Today he called me from the kitchen of the lovely house he and his wife recently bought.

Three years ago, discouraged and hopeless, Will doubted himself and feared for his future.

Just today Will told me he is excited about his life and confident he has the tools and awareness to solve any challenges ADHD throws in his path.

Has Will’s transformation been easy?

Of course not.

Will had struggles and setbacks along the way; sticky patches when it would have been easier for him to stop and be happy with managing his ADHD just a little bit better than when we’d started.

Yet Will never gave up on himself.

It was about a year ago when the pieces of Will’s new life began to click into place. The struggles were fewer; the successes more frequent.

Do I take credit for Will’s success?

Being an ADHD coach is funny that way.

I know Will couldn’t have done it without me. I cleared his pathway; educated, encouraged, and guided. But, that’s my job.

Will did all the work. He listened. He kept moving. Determined to live a more productive, successful, and confident life with well-managed ADHD.

Do all clients experience this deep level of change?

No, not because they can’t, but because they give up.

Often I need to be content with seeing smaller progress in a client’s life rather than a total transformation.

That’s okay, but complete turn-arounds like Will’s make me glow.

So, that’s Will’s story.

Maybe I need to change my short answer to the question, “What is ADHD coaching?”Maybe I need to say, “ADHD coaching can give you the ability to live peacefully, productively, and confidently with ADHD for the rest of your life.
