My Favorite, Simple Trick for Organizing ADD
By Dana Rayburn, Adult ADD Coach

ADDed Success is ADD Coach Dana Rayburn's monthly newsletter about living
successfully with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD / ADHD).

Welcome to ADDed Success!
Would you care to learn one of my favorite, simple organizing tricks?

It's called Visualize Neat; I've recommended it for years.

Visualize Neat seems particularly suited to helping Adults with Attention Deficit
Disorder (AD/HD) deal with clutter.

Visualizing Neat is easy. Here's all you do:

  • Stand outside a room or an area you'd like to be a bit tidier.

  • Next, close your eyes and spend a few moments imagining the room, NOT
how it is now in all its messy glory, but HOW YOU WOULD LIKE IT TO BE. (You
know, the stuff off the floor, tables clear, etc.)

  • Open your eyes and go about your life.

  • Do this every day for a moment or two.

If it works for you, as it does for my clients, and me, you'll find yourself picking
up more stuff more often and generally keeping the place tidier.

Why does it work?

You know how you can step over a shirt heaped on the floor 30 times a day
without even seeing it?

Well, Visualizing Neat helps you see it - the shirt and the rest of the mess. And,
when you see it you're more likely to do something about it.

The Last Word

If you remember, in last month's ADDed Success I announced my new 'Mash the
Martyr' game in which each time I catch myself complaining or suffering I flip the
thought to something positive.

I've been playing 'Mash the Martyr' for a month now and am thrilled to report it's
wonderful impact on my mood and well-being.

Instead of focusing on what's wrong in my life, I find I'm focusing on the many,
many things I have to be thankful for.

To Your ADDed Success,
Dana
