Yes, Wendy. I Wrote Organized For Life

organized for lifeI just hung up from a call with a woman named Wendy. She’d just bought my Organized for Life! program and called with a question about the download.

Wendy acted surprised when I answered the phone. She said when she bought Organized for Life! she wasn’t sure if I was a real person. She ordered it anyway. Thanks Wendy. I’m glad you did.

Wendy’s comment made me realize I need to make something clear…

Yes, I am a real person.

I live in the hills of beautiful southern Oregon with my incredible husband and too smart, teenage daughter. Pets are family to us. Right now we have two, goofy dogs. I have a tendency to bring home strays when my husband isn’t looking.

Life is full. My busy ADHD coaching business keeps me happy and hopping. Plus, my family, friends, hobbies, volunteer work and our home.

I love to sing. I play the ukulele with a couple of groups, and sing with a hospice choir. I garden, hike, read, ski, and take yoga and exercise classes.

I do a lot of writing now, too. Writing was hard for me in school, but I found when I’m passionate about something the words flow. I love sharing ideas about OutSmarting ADHD.

Yes, I wrote Organized for Life! myself. It’s based on my personal experience and organizing discoveries. My transformation from living in clutter and chaos. How I learned to get organized so I could stay that way.

Overcoming disorganization changed my life. It’s had an amazing impact on me and my family. In fact, it’s one of the most valuable things I’ve done.

That’s why I’m passionate about teaching practical ways to get organized. For more than 25 years now. First, as a Professional Organizer. Now as an ADHD coach. Also, through my books and Clutter Busting program.

Do I Follow the Organized for Life System?

Yes. I practice what I teach. Each day we tidy and follow our house routines. I still spend a few minutes each day keeping clutter from building. It all feels natural now.

I also have a house cleaner come twice a month to do the deeper cleaning. To mop, vacuum, dust, and scrub. Cleaning house is something my family hates to do. Delegating cleaning to a pro reduces guilt, procrastination, and frustration.

Is my home always spotless?

No way. I like it to be clean enough so we’re comfortable and at peace yet messy enough so we’re relaxed and happy. If visitors can drop by unannounced without me getting embarrassed I’m okay.

Do I think most anyone can get organized?

Yes! Taking control of your clutter can be overwhelming at first. But along with determination, I find most people just need a basic, practical system. Of course, if someone has hoarding challenges that’s a different story.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to get organized?

Getting organized so you stay organized is like building a muscle. Do a little bit every day and over time you’ll get stronger and more powerful. Stick with it.

Realize it will get easier to decide what to get rid of. Accept that you have to have a system.

Thanks for reading. I feel a bit awkward focusing on myself. But, Wendy’s question made me realize you need to know what goes on behind the scenes. I hope this sets the record straight.

Here’s to being Organized for Life!

Is your filing system, (normally $12.99 I think) included in the book, “Organized for Life”?
    Thanks,
    Maggie

Thanks for asking. The filing system is a separate book, The Essential Home Filing System, that I wrote after Organized for Life.
