Confessions of an ADHD Coach – Car Clutter
Can you believe these words popped out of my darling husband’s mouth last Saturday? “You earn your living helping ADHD adults get organized but the trunk of your car looks like it’s been ransacked.”
He’s right. I admit it. These days the inside of my car is neat as a pin yet the trunk is a bit of a mess. (In contrast to the back of said husband’s SUV in which everything is neatly packed away in lidded bins. Gag me! Would I comment about his trunk being too tidy?)
I tell myself, everyone is allowed a junk drawer and the trunk of my car happens to be my junk drawer on wheels.
Something about casually tossing my yoga mat and the cloth grocery bags in the trunk and slamming the lid makes me happy.
My car clutter doesn’t slow me down. My trunk may look messy but it passes my organizing rule #1. 99% of the time I can find what I need in there in a few seconds.
Except during last month’s snow storm when my ice scraper went AWOL and I was forced to steal dear husband’s ice scraper.
I’ve been considering clearing out and organizing my trunk. But, I probably won’t. After all just how organized does one need to be?
As I explain in my book, Organized for Life, I was born disorganized and am now what I call a Reformed Messy Person. The car clutter in my messy trunk happily reminds me of my roots.
