Confessions of an ADHD Coach – My ADHD Support Group

happy female friends dancing and jumping on beachI don’t attend an official ADHD support group. As I mentioned in my last ADD Success Blog post, Who Needs an ADHD Support Group, larger, structured groups don’t meet my needs.

That doesn’t mean I go it alone with my ADHD though. I am blessed with an informal tribe of close girlfriends who too have Adult ADHD.

My tribe serves as my ADHD support group. They understand how my ADD challenges me. They get that I love them even though I forget to call. They’re comfortable when a conversation bounces from topic to topic. We laugh together and cry together and let each other know that even with ADHD we are worthy and good.

It wasn’t until college that I made some friends who thought and acted like me. Though I didn’t know it then, looking back I suspect they had ADHD, too.

It wasn’t until I got my ADHD diagnosis and went to my first ADDA conference that I discovered the importance of cultivating my ADHD tribe. People like me who happily share and really get my unconventional, carefree approach to life.

It’s been five long years since the last ADDA Conference. Fortunately, the wait is over. This July ADDA is hosting it’s 14th Conference dedicated to ADHD Adults. Sadly, a family commitment will keep me away. But that doesn’t mean YOU need to stay home. Get support at a place where you can be late and impulsive and zany and you’ll still fit in. Find out more about the ADDA Conference here.
